G.u.i.d.a. (unique geographies imagined by the inhabitants), is a dig into the individual memory for the conservation of intangible heritage of places.

Synopsis
The alarm rings for a young Afghan inventor, who has been sheltered in Italy for two years as a refugee from the war in his country of origin. Famous in his homeland for his bizarre ideas and, above all, for that strange analog device that he built himself, similar to a radio, with which he claimed to be able to capture the ‘spirit of places’, as he called it.
Now he has been forced to reinvent himself as a farmer, albeit a noble job that belonged to his father and his father’s father – both victims of war hostilities.
He soon adapted to the Mediterranean climate of Puglia and the warmth of its people, forming a particular friendship with an archaeologist who, to round up, is also a guide for foreign tourists.
Every weekend the inventor follows his friend on tours, learning about the history and faces of this arcane and mystical territory, which reminds him so much of his homeland; moreover, he finally has the opportunity to try the ‘CatturaLuoghi’, which in the meantime he has refurbished in a makeshift workshop.
In the alleys of the center and on the stone surface of the canyon, approached to the surfaces, the instrument returns sounds and noises, vestiges of men and women whose lives these places exude energy.
Meanwhile, a shaman declaims the 5 elements in a cage of luminous pillars.

Behind the Production

A landscape visual poem.

G.U.I.D.A. is a travel film that delves into the individual memory, for the conservation of the intangible heritage of places.
In this project we was asked by a local cultural foundation to tell the story of my hometown, Gravina in Puglia, together with the musicians of the audiovisual collective I founded, Bloodynose
The big question was: how to tell in a different way a place as wild as full of history, so as not to fall into the clichés of mass tourism?
We try to imagine Balsam, a foreign visitor, came by chance in a city of stone, shaped by fatigue and water.
Following a dream he begins to seek the “genius loci” (the spirit of the place), eventually discovering a land much closer to his home than he thought.
